Six Months of Keto, before and after

It's our 6 month Ketoversary!

In June 2017 I weighed 220 pounds......and today my weight was....... 174!!!!!!!! I've lost 46 pounds on the Ketogenic diet in a period of 6 months. I went from a size 18 to 12, but now 12 is getting loose on me, and I'm hovering between 10-12. My goal is size 6-8 in the next 6 months. Maybe in two years I'll manage to become a 4? I'll take that!

Here's just a slightly embarrasing picture of a before and after, the difference is crazy! I mean I know I had a baby and all, but with my previous kids losing weight after a newborn didn't come easy for me as I wasn't able to breastfeed (which apparently makes you lose crazy weight). So I was at a disadvantage there, but the Ketogenic diet saved me and I managed to lose a good amount of baby weight. My goal weight is around the 140's, so I have a good thirty something more to lose.

Honestly losing this weight was only difficult the first three months, when my sugar cravings were sky high. Hubby never had any difficulty with this diet because he doesn't have a sweet tooth like me, and he gets more excited over bacon and cheese than cupcakes. Me, on the other hand, I LOVE MY CUPCAKES! I'm so glad I discovered how to make Keto mug cakes and Keto cookies as they helped with the cravings somewhat.

I get a lot of questions about my macros, and I'm not sure if the way I diet is considered "lazy keto" but, it does work for me. Personally, I don't keep track of my macros. If you asked me how many grams of carbs I eat per day I wouldn't be able to tell you. I do look on the nutrition labels to make sure that whatever I'm eating is either 5g of carbs or below, and I pour butter on everything. Coconut oil and heavy cream are my best friends. I will never be that person who weighs her broccoli to keep her macros in check.

A lot of people start this diet due to wanting to become healthy or for some medical reason, like epilepsy, migranes or diabetes. I purely started it to LOOK GOOD and get skinny. Healthwise I could care less. Ya that sounds bad and all but I wanted results and I wanted them fast, and this seemed like the perfect diet for that.

As I continue to lose weight I feel more and more comfortable in my own skin. That is my ultimate goal- to feel good about myself. Even if I don't ever manage to be in the 140's, it's not a big deal as long as I feel good. It's all about becoming the best versions of ourselves, and that is what I strive for every day.

Fifth Month of Keto

This is our 5th month Ketoversary, and I think I've lost quite a bit, but we forgot to weigh ourselves again this month! I don't know exactly how much we have lost, but I can tell I've lost some weight this past month because the pants that were a bit too tight on me a few weeks ago suddenly feel loose!!!! (HAPPY DANCE!!!!!) Hubby's pants are literally falling off, even with his belt on the tightest notch! I'm so excited about our clothes getting looser that I don't know what to do with myself.

Next month, for our 6 month Ketoversary I'll maybe put up some before and after pictures and give you a better idea of my weight and how much was lost.

Here are most all the foods we ate on our fifth month:

I also baked some treats! A Keto mug cake, Keto brownie cookies, Parmesan crisps, and Keto cheesecake pumpkin pie, which to me tasted ALMOST like a real (crustless) pumpkin pie.

Third & Fourth Month of Keto

I am currently on month #5 of the Ketogenic diet. Me and hubby have been weighing ourselves monthly to track our weight loss, and I honestly cannot be more proud of our progress:

1st month of Keto: 14 pounds lost

2nd month of Keto: 10 pounds lost

3rd month of Keto: We forgot to weigh ourselves!!!!

4th month of Keto: 10 pounds lost

So overall, since starting the Ketogenic in the summer, I am down THIRTY FOUR POUNDS! Hubby is down TWENTY-TWO pounds!

*Does happy dance*

We forgot to weigh ourselves during the third month because we were vacationing in California. All throughout our vacation we stuck to the diet, except for one day at a relatives house, who insisted we eat pancakes and I mean, it's just rude not to, so I ate like 2 huge pancakes and was in heaven for a good 10 minutes.

It was surprisingly easy to maintain the diet while vacationing. Our hotel had breakfast every morning so we would fill up with eggs and sausage/bacon. All other meals were some kind of meat and salad. We had a lot of bunless cheeseburgers with bacon, a lot of kabobs, and a lot of chicken salads. And we would still have our morning coffee.....a KETO coffee from Starbucks (an ice grande skinny vanilla latte with heavy cream)  SO GOOD!

So here's all what I have ate the past two months:

I was adventurous and for the first time made Keto cookies and Keto pizza (with a cauliuflower crust and minimal tomato sauce)

VITAMINS!!!!......I take them every night with dinner. They are: prenatal, DHA, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, Echinacea and I really need to start taking potassium too.

Second month of Keto- pounds lost and what I ate

I have lost ten pounds this month!!!!!! Bringing my total weight loss for the past two months to:

24 POUNDS LOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I didn't even exercise! Well, I think running around after three kids counts as exercise though. Hubby has lost 5 pounds this month. Hooray for him.

Can I just say that I ate cake a few times this month also? I ACTUALLY ATE CAKE! It's called KETO cake, and it's delicious and low carb and yummy and tastes almost like the real thing. I also ate Keto cheesecake and Keto cheesecake brownies. AND I ATE MAC AND CHEESE TOO!!!! (cauliflower mac and cheese of course) but I mean seriously, who knew you could have your cake and eat it too? I love you Keto.

I'm so mad that no one told me about the Ketogenic diet when I was younger. Instead I tried everything else like restricting calories, being vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, Jenny Craig, working out at the gym for two hours a day.....all to no avail. I'd lose like max 1.5 pounds a month. Now I'm eating way more and losing crazy weight. So weird right?!!!! I love how I don't have to count calories and can eat however much I want whenever I want.

Here is exaclty what I ate last month that resulted in ten pounds being lost:

For breakfast every day I would just have KETO coffee, with lots of heavy whipping cream.

Then every day for lunch I will usually just have eggs and pepperoni and sugar free jello:

and on the weekends I would make Keto mug cake, and split it in half to share with hubby. I think it came out to something like 3 net carbs for each half of the cake. It's made with coconut flour and maybe one day I'll post the recipe.

Then I made some Keto cheesecake.......

And then I made keto cheesecake brownies. SO GOOD. keto cheesecake brownies

Ok but really, below are the real food I ate for all of last month, all of which were dinners.

This one is a Keto chicken tikka masala with cauliflower rice. We used the instant pot for this (for the chicken) and it was ready in no time! This was also my first time making cauliflower rice and it was surprisingly good!

Being Overweight and Staying Motivated

This losing weight thing is HARD!!!!!!!!

I'm approaching the third month of eating Keto, still dreaming of carbs every night, and slowly being drained of motivation. Losing 14 pounds the first month was great and all, but I'm just so impatient to lose the rest of my 50 something pounds of baby weight. Some days are harder than others, especially when I'm making a carb rich meal for my kids, which I of course cannot touch. Or when it's Sunday morning and I'm making pancakes or french toast.....the smell in the kitchen KILLS ME!!!!

Right now I only have two outfits that fit me, and I refuse to buy new clothes until I'm at my goal weight. That's my self punishment. I do NOT deserve a shopping spree at this weight.

Last time I went on the keto diet it was only the first three months that were hard, so I'm just really trying to pull through. Losing weight is more of a mindset and requires mental strength and discipline. It's really all about the discipline. So when I'm dying inside for a cupcake I just look at some "fat memes" and they make me feel better.

The ultimate weight loss motivation for me is looking at pictures of myself pre pregnancy and comparing them to the weight I am now. It's RIDICULOUS! It's like I'm a totally different person. But watch out......SHE is coming back summer 2018.

Circ. 2011

I think it will take me maybe a year and a half to get back to that as long as I continue to eat fat and NO sugar or carbs. I've done this before so all I need to do is just continue doing what I'm doing and the pounds will eventually melt off. I remember pre-kids era one of my coworkers told me that I should just embrace my weight, and accept my body type and genetics, and just be comfortable with the way I am. Um NO THANK YOU! That's like the ultimate demotivator. Wait is that a word? Demotivator? I digress.

Right now it's just hard. Hubby has an easier time on this diet because he prefers salty to sweet and loves eating his bacon sausage and cheese. I, on the other hand, miss my cupcakes.

Anyone else going through this torture? Can anyone sympathize? How do you keep motivated?
